Independent Study 2 Approval

1) Write a description of what you plan on doing for your second independent study.

- I plan on doing the same thing on what I've been doing, staying in the West Covina Fire Explorers and keeping up with the training there and at my house. Plus, taking good notes at the explorers and studying them at my house so I will know all the basics they teach us so I will know enough answers.

2) How does your independent study 2 relate to your EQ?

- It relates to my EQ because it answers all of my three answers. Also, staying in the explorers will lead me to better myself on my application when I try to work in a department because I have to show enough dedication on my background and staying in the explorers until my 22nd birthday will show years of dedication, plus EMT classes, I believe that will be plenty of years.

2.
(Ms. Melogno, this is a whatever pic because I got to give my advisers a week in advance if I can take pictures.. I asked already so next week I'll show better, promise!:)
3.
Literal
(a) I, Mike Hazlett, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work.
(b) I've completed some of my work for my senior project, knowing how to think like a firefighter- always being on your top guard and preparing yourself for any emergency circumstances. Also my hours are and will be complete sooner than I expected.

Interpretive
My work demonstrates 30 hours of completing every fire drill day I have. I haven't missed one day yet and don't plan on missing so I can gain more and more knowledge, writing notes twenty- four- seven to prepare myself in the future.

Applied
My work is still helping me answer my EQ and I'm not going to stop right now or later even though my hours will be complete because the Fire Explorer's is a big part to help you become a firefighter and learn what firefighters work with. It shows me step by step becoming a firefighter which is leading the way to success. For ex: being in the explorer's for about 6 months I will be eligible to go with my advisers to Chicago for extra hard training- very good to have on my background showing commitment.

ESLR Check

1. Summary of how you've been an effective learner this year.
-I have been an effective learner by joining the Fire Explorer's in West Covina. On regular Saturday's the day will be a half day, every Saturday at 7:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. and not missing a day, but on the fire academy days (the last Saturday of every month) we start at 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. Also, I've been more of an effective learner by taking the first lead in what our explorer advisors assign us to do. For ex: "Who's going to help me on top of the truck reeling in the 300ft hose" or "Who wants to use the S.C.B.A. equipment to feel our hard it would be to breath in an actuall fire structured building." I would raise my hand and get my captains helmet, with approval, and do the duty.

2. Cite evidence from the senior project (be specific and use examples)
My senior project has been a bigger part for me to be an effective learner due to the main fact of research checks. It has helped me more because I don't do it just to do margin noting, I choose to for the sake of my career, getting myself to be a firefighter and being successful just as I plan for my future. Also, I always need to be on top of my research because of the fact that my Captain inspects us with questions and we need to give answers.

3. What are specific ways that you can improve in this ESLR during second semester?
I will still be an effective learner by still signing and joining again with the Fire Explorer's. I will actually try to help and be like an Advisor to help out my fellow explore companions because sometimes the days can be confusing. I need to start improving on getting my projects done at school so my school grade can be profficient, and taking more pictures of the training I do on the weekends so I can show valuable evidence. I believe an effective learner at I-Poly is a responsible student always staying on task, showing improvement and showing/giving creativity individually on their own project or with a group spreading their work to others.
